Dr. Emmy Rozanski is an enthusiastic music educator and active freelance trombonist in the Chicago and Milwaukee areas. She is passionate about helping musicians create fulfilling and joyful careers and, to that end, created a blog, “What Happens Next? Navigating Life After  Music School”, where musicians working in a variety of musical jobs share their entrepreneurial stories and experiences.

Accomplished in a wide variety of musical styles, Dr. Rozanski performs regularly in musicals, orchestras, chamber groups, jazz ensembles, and a German brass band. She is a founding member of the Firefly Brass Duo, which performed at the 2022 International Women’s Brass Conference, and served as Principal Trombonist for the National Women’s Music Festival Orchestra in 2019 and 2022.

As an educator, Dr. Rozanski has given presentations on cultivating intrinsic motivation and growth mindset for musicians at the International Women’s Music Festival, International  Trombone Festival, and colleges, universities, and youth orchestras across the country. In the summers of 2018 and 2019 she traveled to El Salvador as a teaching artist with MusAid, leading classes in technique and ensemble skills, as well as teaching private lessons. For the past six years, Dr. Rozanski has worked as a teaching artist for Sistema Ravinia, a program dedicated to bringing high quality free music education to students in the Chicago area. She recently completed a six-month long professional development program with the Teaching Artist Training Institute and is currently a mentor for this program.

Dr. Rozanski received both a Doctor of Musical Arts degree and Master of Music degree from  Arizona State University where she studied with Professors Douglas Yeo and Ralph Sauer. She completed her Bachelor of Music Degree at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee where she studied with Professor Megumi Kanda. A passionate visual artist, as well as musician, she has written and illustrated a children’s book about the trombone, Mr. Fitch Joins the Band.
